When I was a kid, if I didn’t practice my violin diligently, my parents threatened to end the lessons. I would beg and plead for them to give me another chance, and thankfully they did. Every week, they drove me to Virginia Beach, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to my lesson with the amazing Dora Mullins, who is still going strong today at age 90. Perhaps discipline was not my strength, but both Mrs. Mullins and my parents held me to high standards and encouraged me to grow into my potential as a musician.
I have been teaching violin and piano for twenty years, and absolutely love sharing the gift of music through the effective format of one-on-one private lessons. My students motivate me to keep committing to music. It’s worth it, because music gives me back as much if not more than what I put into it.
This summer, I am pleased to offer a music lesson series. Yes, I plan to hold my students to the same high standards that I was held to when I was a student. But, especially because it’s summer, we’re still going to have fun!
